Short description of your research area:

Across my career, my research has focussed on understanding the development of the mammalian kidney at the level of gene, cell, tissue and organ. Based on this deep understanding of morphogenesis and organogenesis, I have pioneered approaches for the generation of human kidney tissue via the directed differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells. Such stem cell-derived kidney tissue is now being used to understand human kidney development, model inherited forms of kidney disease, develop platforms for drug screening and engineer auxiliary kidney tissue for transplantation.
